What an eventful day!!

We started off the morning with a visit from the Explorium! We have these in school field trips once a month. Today the focus was on forces and motion- Ms. K brought us lots of "toys" to play with so we could explore science concepts. We also had science for our special class today and we got to create electricity!
During math time we learned about a webiste called Tutpup. Ms. D found out about this from our friends in Australia, and we absolutely loved it! It is a math website where you get to play math games with other kids all around the world. We versed Argentina, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and kids in the United States as well. A couple of us even got paired up with other kids in our classroom! (Moms and Dads- if you want their login information so they can play at home just let Ms. D know!)
Since it is Friday, five of us got to have lunch in the classroom for Lunch Bunch. Macey's dad ate with us because he was here to help with math tiles. We also took some more pictures for our lunch exchange project. We are really enjoying that! There are so many foods eaten in Australia that we had never heard of! The Smarties also asked us some really interesting questions about our lunches. Apparently they do not have goldfish crackers there, and they call ketchup "tomato sauce."
At the end of the day, we got to go to the gym to see the play "The Red Badge of Courage." This was put on by the local children's theatre and we thought it was pretty cool.

After the snow...

We had a good break from school due to the snowstorm, but we are glad to be back to normal. We learned a lot today and would love to share some of these things with you!
In math, we are finishing up a unit on multiplication and division. We go to other classes for math, but all of our groups work on the same things. We are just beginning a unit on fractions and decimals.
This afternoon we worked on a program called Science Court. Through this, we put together electric circuits using a battery, wires, and a lightbulb. Once we had mastered that, we figured out how to add a switch. We learned that we could open and close the circuit by using metal brads and a paper clip! Some of our groups also made a buzzer buzz, and created vibrations as well.
This week is "Bring Your Family To School Week" and we had some adults come read with us at the end of the day. We also had several adults come on Monday. If you did not get to come but would like to, shoot Ms. D an email and we can work something out for next week!
In art class this morning we made special Valentine's Day pattern quilts. Some of us decided to take them home today, and some left them so we can use them as decorations for tomorrow's party.
Thank you for visiting our blog!

Our first post!

We are really excited to start our blog! We were inspired by a year two class in Western Australia. We will be communicating with them soon and we can't wait!
This blog will be a place where we can share what we are learning with you- our audience. We may post pictures, publish our writing, and inform you of special things going on in our classroom. We'd love to read comments that you leave for us!
