Science

Through our life science unit, we have watched caterpillars turn into butterflies and insects turn into ladybugs. We also have tadpoles that we are keeping an eye on! Also in science, we had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets!

September book project

September book projects were puzzles that the kids made after reading a realistic fiction book. They did an awesome job with this project!

First Field Trip

Biography Book Projects

During the month of March, the third graders each read a different biography (or in some cases, autobiography) book. After reading the book, they wrote a speech from the point of view of their character, and created a "poster person" or costume based on what they learned. They did a GREAT job with this! I have pictures of each presentation- let me know if you'd like me to email you a copy!

Which is Better- the New Way or the Old Way?

I think the old way for bookbinding is better because the pepole who did the book do a good job. The new way is good but the pages are easy to rip. so that's why it is better the old way. -Cassidy

I think dogs should be a dollar becoase people want dogs but they dont have any money and they want a friend! I have 2 dogs one is named Pippa and the other one is Harrey! Is it Better to be Rich or Happy?

I think it's better to be happy because when you're happy then you don't have to worry about money(money can make you unhappy!) for example, you don't have to count money or spend it.
Another reason I think it's betterto be happy rather than rich is if you re happy then you don't have to be like this"Where should I hide my money next, here there or where!'' And that does not sound happy:)! -Sarah C.

Holiday Party 2011

What a fun afternoon we had! Thanks to all of our parents who planned the afternoon, to those who sent in so many goodies, and to all who came to help and join in the fun.

Native American Housing

We have spent some time learning about the types of housing that Native Americans built and lived in, and we got to try our hand at building mini versions of these shelters. It's harder than it looks!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a LOT of visitors for the annual Thanksgiving lunch at our school. We are thankful for you all!

We Salute our Veterans

On November 11, we celebrated Veteran's Day. We wrote thank you notes to the men and women who have served our country, and we also had a special lunch event in the cafeteria where veterans were invited to come eat with us. It was a very nice day.

Tadpoles to Frogs!

Hello, all! It has been a while since we've caught up. I'm going to try to get us up to date then let the kids take over again shortly. There have been several exciting events going on in the past month or so. Our classroom is generally somewhat of a zoo, as we house a hamster, tadpoles, mealworms/beetles, brine shrimp, and a fish. A few weeks ago one of our tadpoles finished his transformation into a frog, so we took a walk down to the creek to let him go. While it was a bit of a sad event, we were all glad to see him hop into the water into his habitat.

Our Relatives Came!

We had been reading a story called The Relatives Came, so we were so excited at the end of September when we were called to the cafeteria and found so many of OUR relatives! They had gathered there without us knowing! They brought books and snacks to share, and we spent the afternoon reading and just being together, just like the characters in our story. What a great day- thanks to all of you who could make it!

When my relatives came i was so exited and happy . After that we read books.We also ate frits.When it was over mom took me home and i called my frends over and we played with the jeep. Then mom said it was time to eat. I went in side and ate dinnr.Then it was time for bed. -Alex

We Have Butterflies!

After about two weeks in their cocoons, our butterflies emerged over the weekend! They were gorgeous. On Monday we spent some time observing them, then released them into the wild. It was a great experience!

I think the butterfies are very collerful.They are all on the top they are on the top of the cage which is mad of cloth they are on the top becaus they cany fly yet but the cool thing is that they are momorks TTHHEEYY AARREE AASSOOMMEE OOOO YA -Zane

Field Trip!

Last Friday, we went on a double field trip! We left our school and went to The Living Arts and Science Center. We explored the center, had a picnic lunch outside, then headed to McConnell Springs.

Caterpillar Update!

The catterpillars are in caccons. It is fun to look them.They are not doing mocth on the out siad but they are doing lot's of thing in the in siad. I can't white to see the buterflys. It is going to be fun. -Sarah H.

Mobile Science Lab Day 1

Today we went to a moble sience lab! We could see a lot of dry food! I loved it! Tomorrow im going to go there again! ITS SO MUCH FUN!!!! Today we made our own bownsy balls! Once upon a time ,a cat and dog were best pals .The dog was working on a dangerous experment. There was an explosion! Cat walked onto the mess this caused him to turn evil and his paws began to ache. Then the cat stated bothering the dog and the dog started to bark .The owner made the dog go outside .
cat had a passion for making trouble. He decided to mix all of the potions together. Cat had a splendid idea-he was going to take over the world! Cat thought, ’’I admire his hard work , but I shouldn,t be concentrating on him right now. ‘’
Cat drinks the ,and waits to get stronger and take over the world. However, this does not happen.he becomes weaker instead!As he weakens ,he sees Dog sobbing in the yard.Dog comes in ,finds the antidote,and saves Cats life the dog and cat live happily ever after!

Writing about Relatives

This week, we are spending time reading a story called The Relatives Came. It is written by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Stephen Gammel. Today we wrote about times that we have spent with our relatives near and far.




Sometimes in spring we go to North Carlina.I go with my mom,dad,my brother Sam and my granparents.It is very fun,we stay in fancy hotels with indoor pools. We also take long hikes to see waterfalls.The longest hike i ever took was 6 miles.That one we went to see rainbowfalls.It was so big.I usally drink half the water that we bring with us to take on hikes.I love North Carlina. -Sarah C.

I went to thailand to visit my moms sister. She hugged me alot. I eat flys, frogs, and all kinds of bugs. We baked before we eat. I was there for 3weeks. Now we have to go home and were sad. -Haruki

I was in delta airlines i was packing up for Pakistan it was 8:o2 and the flight was 8:05 i came just the time i was at.I waved bye to my dad and i was at Pakistan it taked me 20 hours to get to Pakistan i said hi to my brother and sister my aunt and uncle and to my grampa.It was hugging time and it was so hot in Pakistan we sat at the table and then we sleeped at the bed and the others sleeped at the floor it was morning and it was time to leave and we went to the airport then we waved good bye.It was my best day ever! -Azam

one birthday my hole famliy came to my house. It was a buch and buch and buch of people.I never new that I had so miny family members! It was SO EXSITING!!! Thay came for my birthday! It was turing six. I got flowers on top of my cake.WOW! I had blast! My cosens came and we played on my fourt. It was fun!!! I have five cosens.IT WAS SO,SO,SO FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We opened my perents and we eat luch. Then it was good-bey time. Wehad to say good-bey but I now that thay where coming back to my house. But right when thay left I started to miss them. High Flyers and Low Crawlers

Last Friday, Annabelle brought in three Monarch caterpillars for our class to observe! We are all very excited about this. We have been observing their growth and have been writing predictions about what might happen to them over the next few weeks. Here are some of our predictions.

A calpier shansh in to a butafly is a calpier and wen it shaeses it is a butafly fully a butafly and it will be free and flyaway and be free and it it is good to hve a caterpillar AND BE FREE!!!!! -Anna

Caterpillers have two lifes a caterpiller and a butterfly life. Monarchs are the only caterpillers that eat milkweed . Monarch look very diferant when it is a catapiller. - Alex

In a week or two the caterpillar will make a cacon and tarn into a monarch butterflte.-Annabelle

We are having Monarch butterflies. They are so cute.There going to be so so butiful.It is going to be so so so so so sooooooooooo fun. -Riley
